This release addresses and issue with the Android 4.1 menu system not working properly with extended menu items. In a way I am thankful that this issue arose as I believe it has really brought the main screen UI forward. The new UI includes an Action Bar component which was introduced in Android 3.0. With the use of the Sherlock Action Bar library this component is available on older versions with the use of the Android Compatibility library. In the action bar you will find menu items for Tools, Settings, and More Options. Tools contains the plugins (Intents) that Waypoint Pro uses to integrate into Google Maps, Radar, Compass 360, and Waypoint Pro's waypoint plotter. Settings contains menu options for Coordinates, Units, Notifications, Color, and an option to hide the control bar. Under the extended menu, you will find menu options for About, Manage Waypoint (Edit, Move, Delete), Manage Category (Create, Rename, Delete), Set Waypoint, Share Waypoint, Share Location, Import Waypoints, Export Waypoints, and Backup Data. Hopefully, this new menu system will make it easier for everyone to use Waypoint Pro. I have also added a new control bar which contains buttons to save, select, clear, select categories, and create categories. This control bar replaces the default buttons that were once at the bottom of the application. Long press each of the controls to get a short description of it's function. As I mentioned in my previous Android 4.1 post, there is also a new color scheme to match the holo blue theme in Android 4.1. In addition to these visible changes there have been many improvements under the covers. Check out Google Play to download Waypoint Pro.
I was able to recreate this issue in an emulator and it appears to be due to the fact that Android is saying goodbye to the menu button. This isn't a bad thing as it was time to revamp this part of the code. Thanks for reporting the issue and I am working on a fix.

Update: 8/12/2012

I just completed an initial upgrade to support the 4.1 menu system. This update has refreshed the look of Waypoint and incorporates the ActionBar UI component. This update will be available to users running Android 2.1 and above thanks to the ActionBarSherlock library. There is still some work left to complete this upgrade so be please be patient. Here is a screen shot with a SNAPSHOT version of Waypoint Pro running with a new Holo color scheme:

Waypoint Free 5.0.6 and Waypoint Pro 5.0.5 both received a new units setting dialog to allow the units for altitude to be selected independently of the units selected for speed and distance. This allows the user to choose how altitude should be displayed.

Additionally, the custom map views have been changed to be locked in portrait mode. This was done to maintain a constant view while working with map and not worrying about changing the orientation of the device.

There were a few other changes under the covers that should also improve the performance such as passing information between activities by using the Android Parcelable interface.

Compass 360 Pro received a fix to correct a problem with the landscape layout not properly displaying Latitude and Longitude once the location was acquired.

These updates are all available from Google Play now.The Droid Devhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06234902985310969718noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6873636354271100612.post-53914249376091337892011-08-08T09:54:00.001-07:002012-07-24T18:43:02.179-07:00Waypoint 5.0.0 ReleasedThe following features have been added to the 5.0.0 release:
Maps:
Displays your current location
Displays Total route/track distance
Displays Distance to next waypoint
Displays Distance from your current location to the selected waypoint
track points that belong to the selected category when the
Plot Waypoints menu option is used.
Set waypoint map now shows your current location and distance from the set waypoint
Coordinates:
You can now enter coordinates in degrees, minutes, or seconds format
when you select the Set Waypoint menu option.
Importing:
Waypoint now supports importing GPX data.
Import waypoints, routes, and tracks.
Upload your GPX file to the Waypoint directory on the SD Card
and select the Import Waypoints menu option.
Backups:
Waypoint's data file can now be backed up via E-mail or you can
choose to upload it to your Google Docs account if you have the Google
Docs app installed.
Compass 360 Free, if you don't already have it, which is ad supported. If you would like,
you can download Compass 360 Pro which does not include the ads.
Performance:
Waypoint has been optimized to handle large amounts of data to accommodate the potentially
large amount of data that can be imported from GPX files. The Droid Devhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06234902985310969718noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6873636354271100612.post-17186557383391150322011-05-15T07:10:00.000-07:002011-05-15T07:10:55.538-07:00Compass 360 Free/Pro ReleasedCompass 360 is GPS enabled compass that uses the phone's magnetic and GPS sensor to help you navigate to your destination. Issues with dialogs and rotation

Most of the work for this release was to resolve an issue with dialogs causing a LeakedWindow exception in the Android run time. This is essentially a memory leak caused by not dismissing any open dialogs when the device is rotated. There was also an issue with the Rename Category and Move Waypoint dialogs that would cause the application to force close if a selection drop down box was open while the device rotated. And lastly, dialogs were not persisted if the device was rotated. All of these issues have been resolved. The Droid Devhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06234902985310969718noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6873636354271100612.post-8398445491906894812011-02-14T08:52:00.000-08:002011-02-15T07:30:59.975-08:00Waypoint 4.2.0 ReleasedWaypoint 4.2.0 has been released. This update adds the following features:

Proximity Alerts
Proximity alerts allow you to be notified when you are apporaching your waypoint. This alert can be configured in the Edit Notifications menu item. There are 4 preset distances to choose from: 30, 50, 100, and 150 meters. When the proximity alert is enabled and triggered a system notification alert message will be displayed in notification bar.
Waypoint will check if the GPS sensor is enabled and if it is not, the user will be prompted to enable the GPS sensor. If the user decides to enable the GPS, the Location and Security menu is displayed where this setting can be changed. Once complete, they return back to Waypoint. Waypoint will remember if the user enabled the GPS sensor and prompt the user to disable the sensor on exit, but only if the Back button is used to terminate the application.
